As the first of its kind on the West Coast, Hack IoT aims to
provide students with the hardware, technical experience,
and motivation to innovate products for the Internet of Things.

  • What is a hackathon? And what is Hack IoT specifically?
    • a hackathon is a collaborative event in which teams engineer solutions based on a theme. Hack IoT focusses on creating IoT products within a 24-hour period. With this year's theme being 'Sense-ability'- teams are encouraged to create products designed for interfacing with the 5 senses.
  • What qualifications do I need to participate?
    • No experience is needed to qualify! Additionally, we will be holding workshops with IEEE's Design Team to familiarize hackers with basic skills prior to the event.
  • How are teams judged?
    • A team’s product is judged by a panel of educators, company representatives, and other professionals in IoT.  The criteria for judging is based on Technical Difficulty, Creativity, Usability, and Business Potential.
  • What should I bring?
    • Please bring your USC ID and any toiletries you will need for the 24-hr period.  We will be providing 3 meals on April 1st and a light breakfast on the 2nd for participants.
  • How big can teams be? What if I don't have a team?
    • Up to 4 people are allowed on a team. If you do not have a team while registering, we will group individuals without a team before the hackathon.
